Zahedan is the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. The province has been known as the land of the unknown. Zahedan is one of the hot and dry cities in southeastern Iran. In the past, before the time of Reza Khan, this city was called "Dezab", but Reza Khan changed its name to Zahedan. The city has a hot climate most days of the year. Of course, the nights in Zahedan are a little cold, even in summer. If you are planning to travel to this city, be aware that Zahedan has both a railway station and an airport. In the following, we will introduce the Abui historic house in Iran.

Introducing Abui's traditional house accommodation in Iran

It hasn't been many years since the construction of the Abu'i house in Zahedan. This mansion was built about 86 years ago in 1311 AD. Professor Mahmoudi, one of the most prominent architects in the country at the time, undertook the construction of this house and built it in the most beautiful way possible with his famous windmills and ponds. Abui mansion belonged to a person named Zaim Abui. When this house was built, Zahedan did not yet have the shape and image of a metropolis, and the core of the new city was being formed.

At the same time, Zaim Abui, an employee of the Ministry of Justice at the time and in a relatively good financial position, brought Professor Mohammad Ali Mahmoudi from Yazd to Zahedan to build a house in the style of Yazd's houses. Abui used this beautiful and magnificent house until 1340 AD. Shortly afterwards, his heirs lived in the house, and the house was eventually abandoned. Today, the building of the Abui Mansion in Zahedan has been restored by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Zahedan and has been converted into a workshop for traditional arts in Zahedan. Abui's house was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1998 with the number of 2159.

Architecture of Abui traditional guesthouse in Iran

Abui House has been built on a vast land with an area of 813 square meters and 483 square meters of infrastructure. In the construction of this mansion, Professor Mahmmoudi combined the architectural elements of Yazd as well as the indigenous and traditional elements of this region and left a glorious mansion in the historical context of Zahedan.

Brick and raw brick are the main materials used in this building. When you visit this building, the first thing that will catch your eyes is the trunk arch and the beautiful brickwork at the entrance. The entrance door of the mansion is located in the northwest of the building and opens to a very beautiful porch with a domed roof.

After passing this beautiful porch, you will reach the main courtyard of Abui's house. All around the courtyard are different mansions. These rooms are located in the north, south and east of the courtyard. One of the most interesting architectural features of Abui's house is the architect's attention to the angles of sunlight in it.

In fact, this is the main thing that was considered in the desert, hot and dry areas of the country. The architecture of the mansion is such that it has winter rooms on the north side and the summer rooms on the south side of the building. Kitchens, warehouses and other facilities are located on the east side of the building.

In the northeastern part of the building, there is a roofed corridor through which you can access the roof steps of the mansion. In the summer, the residents of the house sat on a wide porch built on the south side and they enjoyed the coolness of its shade.

In a room of this mansion, which is also known as the summer residence, a beautiful pool has been built. On the roof of the pool house, there is an octagonal windbreak through which the wind would reach the pool house and after cooling it would be directed to the summer rooms of the building.

In the center of the main courtyard, they have created a beautiful pond and a clean garden. Another architectural feature of this building is the use of domed roofs in all rooms, in order to have best temperature in all seasons.
